Our Thoughts on SAP IBP’s 2508 release
SAP continues to invest in its best of breed solution for supply chain planning, SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP). The 2508 release of SAP IBP introduces powerful enhancements to boost agility, streamline collaboration and deliver actionable intelligence. We caught up with a couple of our SAP supply chain planning experts to get their insights on what has caught their attention, including unified planning, real-time analytics and smarter automation:
Harmonised Planning Area (HPA)
Arguably the biggest update in IBP 2508 is the introduction of the Harmonised Planning Area (HPA), technically known as I_SAPIBP2. This new planning area merges Time Series (TS) and order-based planning into a single, unified data structure, bringing greater consistency and efficiency to your planning processes.
Here are some key benefits of HPA:
- Simplified configuration for unit of measure and currency conversions.
- Improved application mapping for smoother coordination of operator inputs and outputs.
- Consistent data model across applications, enhancing accuracy and maintainability.
- New Optimiser Run Details app, showing cost breakdowns specific to I_SAPIBP2, independent of the Application Logs app.
These early steps in data model harmonisation are already improving reporting and planner efficiency, with user adoption front and centre. Expect even more enhancements in future releases as HPA continues to evolve!
Enhancements to Planner Workspace
IBP 2508 makes it easier for you to use and customise your Planner Workspace (PWS), enhancing usability and adding functions to save time and streamline performance. The key enhancements include:
- One-click scheduling of saved jobs through the planner workspace, massively streamlining usability.
- Enhancements for workbook variants include segmentation of workbook data, so workbooks can be pre-filtered with business context.
- In addition to improving contextual navigation usability, 2508 improvements mean you are now able to pass pre-defined filters from analytics stories into the PWS through hyperlinked URLs, improving the handshake between PWS and analytics.
- Product lifecycle information has been enhanced in planning UIs to include phase-in and phase-out information as well as product assignments.
- Using formulas in the PWS has never been easier. Saved formulas can now be nested in new formulae and used across different planning levels. A specialised IBP_COVERAGE function has been added to calculate periods of coverage.
- The custom alerts pane in PWS has been enhanced to hide snoozed alerts, so users can work down a to-do list of active alerts. When using PWS in simulation mode, the alerts pane can now also show simulated changes to alerts, for greater visibility of the simulated data’s effect.
- IBP 2508 also introduces scorecards, configurable cards which can be used to indicate a scenario’s effects on focus key figures.
- A global configuration parameter update will change the default behaviour for automatic generation of missing planning objects when disaggregating information. This applies to both the PWS and the excel add-In.
AI-Assisted Planning Assistance
The SAP IBP 2508 update leverages Joule, SAP’s AI-powered assistant, to help planners make smarter decisions faster. With Joule, you can easily:
- Check master data health.
- Create formulas and apply conditional formatting.
- Understand your forecast results with detailed explanations of how each algorithm contributed to the final result. You’ll see why a specific model was chosen and how to tweak settings for better accuracy.
- Review inventory recommendations with AI insights.
These features are available in both the PWS and the excel add-in, helping you make data-driven decisions with confidence.
