We recently caught up with our Logistics Lead, Adam Wilson, who was one of our first ever colleagues here at The Config Team, and has recently rejoined us to head up our Logistics Team. He shared his plans for the direction of the team as well as some great insights into his SAP career of over 20 years.
“My SAP journey started at Shell UK, where I was contracting on a Plant Maintenance implementation at its Stanlow refinery. Wanting to build a long-term SAP career, I moved into a permanent role with an FMCG company in Manchester that was implementing SAP Warehouse Management (WM) with RF across six UK warehouses.
“It was during this time that I met a very young Andrew Moses, The Config Team’s owner and Managing Director, who was the SAP WM Consultant on the project. After a year or so of working together, he asked if I would like to join him. I always say the fact that he wanted me to go up to Hallbarrow to discuss the future with him, around Christmas time, in front of a log fire with lots of Christmas treats supplied by Carolyn, was a major factor in me agreeing.
“Even early on in my career at The Config Team, I was involved in some major projects. These included a global SAP rollout with Cadbury Schweppes and a UK-wide re-implementation and upgrade with Carlsberg. A real highlight was flying first class to the US, China and Singapore with SABIC, analysing their global SAP template and recommending improvements for its petrochemical operations.
“I enjoyed more than 20 years with The Config Team before going to work with Idorsia, one of our customers, as a Supply Chain Architect – including relocating to Switzerland. During my time there, I helped roll out a commercial operations template that I had originally developed while at The Config Team. This involved integrating systems across sub-contract manufacturing, 3PLs, 4PLs and eOrdering/invoicing partners. This covered procurement, manufacturing, quality management, internal logistics and order-to-cash. It was a complex but rewarding challenge, but eventually, I felt the time was right to return to The Config Team.
“One of the key drivers for my return was the people. There’s something special about this team, and I’m excited to be part of it again. Our consultants are known for being knowledgeable, honest and genuinely invested in our customers’ success. We don’t just roll out the same solution each time. We listen, we collaborate and we tailor our approach to each client’s unique needs. It’s about delivering real, measurable value.
“I’m genuinely excited about the talent we have in our Logistics Team and beyond, both seasoned experts and new faces.
